The systemic issue our team asks student teams to address is the significant disconnect between education on all levels; K12, higher education, adult education, and the local workforce, resulting in a lack of career awareness and exposure experiences for learners in Lenawee County. We ask that student teams focus on K-12. This disconnect manifests as learners graduating without a clear understanding of the career opportunities available within their community, the skills and education required for these careers, and the pathways to achieve them. Consequently, there is a mismatch between the skills that learners acquire during their education and the needs of local employers, which hinders both learner career readiness and the ability of businesses to find qualified local talent.

This experience is designed for learners participating in a program focused on environmental sustainability and community engagement. Participants will leverage their knowledge of waste management, community outreach, and data analysis to develop innovative solutions that enhance recycling efforts in Lenawee County, Michigan. By collaborating with industry professionals, learners will gain practical experience in project management and strategic planning, applying classroom concepts to real-world challenges in a community setting.
